Casa entre tres

‘Casa entre tres’ is a project for a single-family home located in the municipality of La Eliana, the house is shaped by the division of the functions into three separate modules, joined by an organizing fourth module which sits between. This fourth volume serves as an open porch during the summer, and as a closed living room in the winter.

Layout

Each of the modules encompasses a different function. The one on the west side hosts the main service spaces, like master bedroom and kitchen, opening up to the living room module along its longest face. The other two meet perpendicularly to the central module along their short side. One of these hosts the study room and guest module, while the other contains secondary spaces like garage, multiuse space and storage. This distribution method allows, what seems to be a large house, to have a relatively compact use in the centre.

Materialization

The materialization reinforces this conceptual organization. The three modules are rather closed, rectangular pieces, with a room height of 2.50 m. The central space, also rectangular in plan, is far more open to the outside through large glazed walls and a room height of 3.60 m. This space becomes the highlight of the project, as the most open and integrating space.

The design and construction are simplified through the use of a 1.20 metre module, giving the house its characteristic rhythm and proportions. The use of local materials was considered to reduce environmental impact: the bearing walls are made of ECO-3 thermal clay blocks, with sufficient thermal resistance to offset the use of plastics. The claddings used are from the neighbouring stone quarry in Alicante and the ceramic kilns in Castellón.

Landscape

The surrounding garden will be treated as a juxtaposed element, shaped by circular modules, drawing from the same size pattern, to contrast with the straight lines.
