Maze Studio has experience in multiple scale projects. This is an example of an interior rehabilitation in a town nearby Alicante. A 30 year old kitchen was remodelled with a Mediterranean touch.
Previous state
Before the reform of this kitchen, it was divided into two areas, a main one where the storage and the main kitchen space were located and a colder, interior, gallery where the appliances for washing clothes and a space for eating were located. This division made the space uncomfortable and reduced the light entering the kitchen, with north west orientation.
Concept
The main action of the project is to combine the two spaces previously mentioned and shape them so that they still keep the same functions, but improving them with a more efficient layout. The energy conditions of carpentry and exterior walls are also improved so that this single space has superior comfort without the need for heating or cooling.
As for the new configuration, the fire zone remains in the same position and the storage area is increased on the opposite side, where the two refrigerators that were previously separated are integrated. Where before there was a division between the gallery and the kitchen, a new counter bar and a change of height in the false ceiling maintain the possibility of separating the eating and working areas, while maintaining a visual continuity between the two that did not exist before.
The result is a more spacious and illuminated kitchen with a design that is more oriented to the real needs of the client.
Materialization
The materialization tries to reinforce the ideas of the project by using light and earthy tones that, on the one hand, give amplitude and improve lighting and, on the other hand, remind us of the context where the house is located.
The furniture, with the exception of the appliances that have not been changed at the request of the client, are all white with a matte finish and minimalist features so as not to attract attention. A cream-toned porcelain material is chosen for countertops and fronts as well as for floors and baseboards, these last ones aligned in height to the furniture. This gives solidity and warmth to the space, and creates an image of continuity and coherence throughout the kitchen.
Finally, four wooden furniture elements are added to contrast with the other light tones, attracting attention and positioning the user within the kitchen. A tall unit with the corner cut off directs the vision at the entrance, a floor-to-ceiling spice rack separates the cooking and preparation areas and the bar together with another tall unit clarifies the division between the working and eating areas.
All these materials are combined in the kitchen with an attention to detail that makes them work perfectly together.
